This weekend just gone saw the openning of an excellent new restaurant in Weymouth, a bit of a secret as yet, I’m sure it’s not going to stay that way. Next to the Harbour Master’s office on Custome House Quay there’s a door with a temporary sign over it, the owners are in “discussions” with Weymouth & Portland Borough Council over the finer points of a more permanent sign.
Don’t let the temporary sign distract you, there’s a few stairs or a lift up to the restaurant which is a real Tardis over the Harbour Master’s Office, over two floosr with long tables and heavy benches, there’s a feast awaiting you.
If you know your cider’s you’re in heaven as the selection is second to none and if you don’t know your ciders there’s an excellent selection of 5 different ones for just £7.50 which we started with.
The pizzas are delivered with a roller cutter on boards rather than plates giving the whole experience a rustic feel, I think the only negative I could find on my visit, which we managed to keep enjoying for 2 hours, was that the names of their wares seem to be Bridport based and although that’s the home of the company it felt a little odd being in Weymouth. Don’t get hung up on that though, I can see myself sitting in the window on the top floor for many an hour this coming summer……if it hasn’t already been snatched up by canny holiday-makers.
Good luck to The Stable, a 90% score from me, Weymouth needs to encourage more places of this standard and my message to the council is let’s not shoot ourselves in the foot over the sign issue, period signs can bring a place to life!
