Olympic celebrations at relaunch of new Asda store in Weymouth
Figures from the local community and sporting helped to launch the newly revamped Asda store in Weymouth on Monday 15 August.
The town mayor, Councillor Graham Winter was accompanied by sailors from Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, which include Olympic hopefuls Sam Barker and Katrina Hughes as well as chief executive, John Tweed.
Sam Barker benefits from the support of SportsAid and the Asda Sporting Chance scheme, which sees him ‘adopted’ by Asda Weymouth.
The event at the store on Newstead Road was set to a back-drop of music from steel band, Hurricane Force and local choir, Dorset for Singing.
The new-look store has increased from 25,000 sq ft to 52,000 and now boasts a mezzanine floor which will include a new George clothing department. The bigger store will also include a new fish counter and a new-look bakery and frozen food section. There will also be a new deck car park which has created an additional 156 parking spaces.
