2013 Open Day at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy
On Saturday 30th March, Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy are hosting their 2013 Open Day, an opportunity for members of the local community to come down and experience first-hand the sports and facilities the Academy and on-site partners have to offer. After a very successful Olympic year, the Academy is showcasing just how much is available for local people to enjoy, from participation to volunteering.
Entry is free for the event and visitors can expect a variety of activities to try their skills at including; Dinghy Sailing at SailLaser, Windsurfing and Stand-up Paddle Boarding at The Official Test Centre (OTC) and Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, Coasteering and Kayaking with Weymouth College’s Outdoor Adventure Centre.
Attractions to the show will include taster sessions of the above sports, as well as information available on further aspects of the Academy, such as the facilities it has to offer, membership options and function and seminar abilities. Each taster activity will take about 1½ hours and there will be a charge for each activity of £15 per person. There is also the on-site very popular café which overlooks Weymouth Harbour serving teas, coffees and hot and cold food throughout the day as well as a BBQ happening at lunch time.
“The WPNSA Open Day is a chance for visitors to get involved and have a go at the sports WPNSA has to offer. The Games were not a one off, but a springboard to ensure there is a continuing and lasting legacy in Dorset and the United Kingdom. We hope to inspire young and old in the ‘afterglow’ of very successful Olympic and Paralympic sailing events, in all aspects of marine sports not just sailing. Involvement can range from partaking regularly to volunteering at events.” John Tweed, Chief Executive of WPNSA.
The WPNSA Open Day on Saturday 30th March is open from 10am until 4pm, and is suitable for beginners of all the activities. Please contact the Sailing Academy reception to register your interest and book your taster activities on 01305 866000.
